“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread . . . Matthew 6:9-11 (ESV)
Our Lord taught his disciple to pray and as a church we would be wise to pay attention to it completely and heed our Lord’s command, pray then like this Matthew 6:9a. First, as we call out to our Father notice that, by our Lord’s words, we must praise His Name, hallowed be your name.
Second, we are to pray for His kingdom and His will. As a church, this must be our first desire. We should not want anything that is not His will or His kingdom. All else, as the author of Ecclesiastes writes, “. . . is vanity.”
I believe the key for us, Serenity Baptist, is verse 11. We should only ask for our daily bread unless we have cried out to our Father for Him to be praised as we seek His kingdom and will. Our prayer should be for God to draw men to the faithful preaching of His Word as we lift high the name of the Lord Jesus Christ John 12:32. We must be willing to forgo our request for daily bread until we actively praise Him and seek His will and kingdom not for our personal lives only but for His church, our church-Serenity Baptist.
Soli Deo Gloria
